A Special Visit from My Nephew at the Naval Academy: A Day of Victory and Family
Victory Family and Naval Pride
I had the incredible joy of having my nephew, who is currently attending the United States Naval Academy, for an unexpected overnight visit. It was one of those rare moments where his intense schedule allowed him a brief break, and I couldn’t have been more excited to spend some quality time with him, and that he would come and see his awesome Godmother…:)! What made the day even more special was the fact that earlier that afternoon, his rugby team had triumphed over Army in a thrillingmatch!!! https://navysports.com/news/2024/9/28/mens-rugby-mens-rugby-claims-star-match-in-32-5-victory-over-army.aspx
For those who know my nephew, his passion for rugby is undeniable. Balancing the rigorous demands of being a midshipman at the Naval Academy with the commitment required to play rugby at such a competitive level speaks volumes about his dedication. I couldn’t be prouder of his accomplishments both on and off the field. A chip off the old Aunty block!
When he arrived, he was still riding high from Navy’s victory over Army. The Army-Navy rivalry is legendary, and the energy surrounding that game is always electric. Hearing him recount the match, how fiercely both teams fought for every inch, and the camaraderie among his teammates reminded me just how special this chapter of his life is.
We spent the evening catching up, talking about his experiences at the Academy, watching old movies and sharing some great food. It’s moments like these that make me grateful to be close enough to offer a home away from home when he needs it. I am also incredible grateful that my sister shares her babies with me and allows me the complete privilege of being so much apart of their lives.
As I watched him head back to Annapolis the next day, I couldn’t help but feel proud—not just for the rugby win, but for the remarkable young man he’s becoming. His drive, discipline, and commitment to something bigger than himself are qualities that inspire me every day. Did I want to chain him to me so he couldn’t leave,…well yes. But with tears of love and pride I let him go. Victory, Family, and Naval Pride, it doesn’t get better than that.
I can’t wait for the next visit and to continue cheering him on, both in rugby and in life! Go Navy!
